MADAAR Privacy Policy
This policy explains how information is handled when you use the MADAAR app and this website.
1.Introduction
MADAAR (“the app”) is developed and operated by Sama Digital Innovation L.L.C (“Sama Digital Innovation”, “we”, “us”), a company established in United Arab Emirates. This policy describes how we handle information when you use the app and when you visit madaar.app.
It is written in plain language. Where a section describes something that depends on how a device permission is set, that is stated directly rather than left to interpretation.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the app or the website.
2.Information you provide
Most of MADAAR can be used without sending us anything. You provide information to us only when you choose to get in touch:
- The content of a support message or feedback you send us.
- The email address you write from or enter in the support form, so we can reply.
- Optional details you add to help us reproduce a problem, such as device model or app version.
- A screenshot, if you choose to attach one.
We ask for the minimum needed to answer you. Please do not include sensitive personal information in a support message.
3.Location information
MADAAR may ask for access to your device location for two purposes: calculating prayer times for where you are, and calculating the direction of the Qibla.
You can refuse this permission, and you can withdraw it later in your device settings. Refusing location permission does not prevent you from using the rest of the app.
Prayer time and Qibla calculations are performed on your device using astronomical formulas built into the app. Your coordinates are not transmitted to us for this purpose and we do not keep a record of where you have been.
If you prefer not to share location at all, MADAAR offers manual city selection so you can set your location yourself.
4.Device permissions
MADAAR may request the following permissions. Each is used only for the stated purpose, and each can be refused.
| Permission | Why it is used |
|---|---|
| Location | Prayer time calculation and Qibla direction. |
| Notifications | Prayer time reminders and the Adhan alert you choose. |
| Motion and orientation sensors | Detecting how the device is being held so the compass reads correctly. |
| Compass / magnetometer | Determining which way the device is facing, to point towards the Qibla. |
| Local storage | Saving your settings, Athkar progress and Quran bookmarks on the device. |
| Network access | Downloading Quran text, translations, recitation audio and app updates. |
The compass reads the device magnetometer and orientation sensors to show a live bearing. It does not record, log or transmit your physical movements.
5.Prayer settings and worship preferences
To make the app behave the way you want it to, MADAAR saves your own settings, which may include:
- Prayer time calculation method and Asr method
- Manual time adjustments per prayer
- Notification and Adhan preferences
- Athkar progress and repetition counts
- Quran bookmarks and last-read page
- Reading preferences such as font size, translation and night mode
- Selected language and selected reciter
These preferences are saved on your device. MADAAR does not require an account, and these settings are not uploaded to us. They may be included in a backup you make yourself through your device or platform backup service, which is governed by that provider’s terms.
6.Quran and audio content
MADAAR may download Quran text, translation files, recitation audio and other supporting content, either at first launch or when you request a specific Surah, translation or reciter.
Like any download over the internet, these requests reach the hosting provider that stores the files and expose standard technical information to it, such as your IP address, the file requested, and general device and request details. That is a normal property of network requests and is not specific to MADAAR.
Quran text, translations and recitations are supplied by third parties under their own licences and are not our intellectual property.
7.Automatically collected technical information
This section lists only what is actually used by the published build.
The current release of MADAAR does not include a third-party analytics SDK or a third-party crash reporting SDK. Where you obtained the app, the app store itself may still provide the developer with aggregated statistics — for example install counts, crash summaries and country-level breakdowns — under the store operator’s own privacy terms, and not through anything embedded in the app.
- App version and build number
- Operating system version and device model
- Crash and error reports
- Basic performance information
- General usage events
- IP address, as part of ordinary network requests
Publication check: the list above must be reduced to exactly what the shipped SDK list confirms before this policy goes live.
8.Third-party service providers
The table below lists every external service involved in running MADAAR and this website. It is maintained as the app changes. No company appears here unless it is actually used.
| Provider | Purpose | Information processed | Data location |
|---|---|---|---|
| [App distribution — e.g. Apple] | Distributing the app and processing installs | Account and device data held by the store operator | [Verify] |
| [Website hosting] | Serving this website | IP address, request logs | [Verify] |
| [Quran content provider] | Quran text and translations | IP address and request details | [Verify] |
| [Recitation audio hosting] | Delivering recitation audio | IP address and request details | [Verify] |
| [Support email provider] | Receiving and replying to support messages | Email address and message content | [Verify] |
Publication check: replace every bracketed entry with the real provider name and a link to that provider’s privacy policy, and delete any row that does not apply.
9.Advertising
MADAAR does not currently display third-party advertising.
If advertising is introduced in a future version, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date will change.
10.Legal bases and consent
Where data protection law applies to you, we rely on the following bases, depending on the situation:
- Your consent — for example when you grant location or notification permission, which you may withdraw at any time.
- Performing the functions you asked for — such as calculating prayer times or delivering a Quran file you requested.
- Our legitimate interests in operating the service securely and in fixing faults, balanced against your rights.
- Compliance with a legal obligation where one applies.
We do not claim automatic compliance with every data protection law worldwide. Where a specific law gives you rights that go beyond this policy, those rights apply.
11.Retention
Information saved on your device — settings, Athkar progress, bookmarks and downloaded content — stays there until you delete it inside the app, reset the app data, or remove the app.
Support correspondence is kept only for as long as needed to resolve your issue and to keep a reasonable record of what was requested and answered.
Publication check: confirm the actual retention period for support email and for server request logs, and state it here as a number of months.
12.Data sharing
We share information only where it is necessary to:
- Provide a function of the app that you have used, such as downloading content from a hosting provider
- Operate hosting and delivery of the app and website
- Respond to a support request you sent us
- Investigate and prevent abuse, fraud or security incidents
- Comply with a legal obligation or a valid request from a competent authority
- Protect the rights, property or safety of users, the public or ourselves
We do not sell personal information. Because MADAAR relies on external hosting and content providers, we do not claim that information is never shared with any third party — the providers involved are listed above.
13.International transfers
Some of the service providers listed above operate infrastructure outside your country. When you download content or contact support, that information may be processed in another country whose data protection rules differ from your own.
Publication check: name the specific safeguards in place, such as standard contractual clauses, only if they are actually agreed with each provider. Otherwise remove this line rather than making an unverified claim.
14.Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including transport encryption for network requests and restricted access to the support mailbox.
No app, website or method of transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and we cannot promise absolute security.
15.Children
MADAAR is a general-audience app suitable for ages 4 and above, in line with its app store age rating. It is not directed at children in a way that involves collecting their personal information.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without the safeguards required by applicable law. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through support, please contact us and we will delete it.
16.Your choices and rights
You control the following at any time:
- Deny or withdraw location permission in your device settings.
- Disable notifications, either in the app or in your device settings.
- Clear locally stored app data, including bookmarks and progress.
- Ask us for a copy of, or the deletion of, information you sent through support.
- Withdraw consent where consent is the basis we rely on.
- Contact Sama Digital Innovation with a question or complaint about this policy.
We respond to requests about support information within a reasonable period and may ask you to confirm the email address the original message came from.
17.Deleting your data
- Delete bookmarks, Athkar progress and preferences inside the app where that option is provided.
- Remove the app from your device to delete the data it stored locally, including downloaded Quran files.
- Email privacy@madaar.app to request deletion of anything you sent us through support.
Publication check: confirm these steps match the settings screen in the shipped build, and adjust the wording to the exact menu path.
18.Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will revise the effective date shown at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will make the update visible in the app or on this website.
